Devon Point Farm’s ‘Endless Summer’ Early WINTER CSA Farm Share is on Thursdays and runs for 8 weeks from October 18 - December 6, 2018.
About Our Winter CSA:
Summer days are shortening and autumn is just around the corner. Mid-October will bring Connecticut’s first frost, which also coincides with the close of our Summer CSA. This year, as your memories of summer fade and the holiday season approaches, your dinner table can continue to bask in the final rays of summer sunshine! We are excited to offer you fresh, locally grown, non-GMO, nutritionally dense, beyond organic vegetables through mid-December that capture the summer sunshine. There are TWO PICKUP CHOICES:
1) WOODSTOCK FARM PICKUP:
THURSDAY pickups 3-6 p.m. at our Woodstock Farm Store, One-Size Share • $260 by cash/check, (or $270 by paypal or credit card, includes card service fee)
2) BAGGED SHARES:
available for Thursday evening (6-8pm) or Friday mornings (8-11am) on our porch if you can't make it on Thursday evenings. (costs $15 more)
Our ‘Endless Summer’ early winter CSA, offers you 8 weeks of vegetables and a variety of unique greens that add nutritional punch to your diet, and that are impossible to find at the grocery store! Membership is limited to 50 shares, and pick-up will be held every THURSDAY* at Devon Point Farm from 3-6 p.m. starting Thursday, October 18 and running through Thursday, December 8th. A BAGGED SHARE will also be available (for $15 more), to pick up on Thursday evenings 6-8 pm on our Porch, or Friday mornings on our Porch. *With the exception of Thanksgiving week, in which the pickup will be on Tuesday, Nov. 20th, and bagged shares on Tuesday p.m. or Wednesday a.m. during that week.
What Vegetables Are in the WINTER CSA?:
Vegetables in the winter CSA will include staples like potatoes, onions and winter squash; roots like carrots, turnips, beets, and winter radishes; cooking greens like spinach, kale, mustards, and raab; salad greens like lettuce mix, spinach, arugula, and mizuna; and cancer-fighting veggies like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and pac choi. We also have some fun growing European cold-weather greens such as mache, claytonia, and minutina. As always, we will send you a weekly newsletter with information about your vegetables and recipes for you to learn how to prepare them.
How Much Do I Get?:
Our Winter CSA is a one-size share, equivalent to our “half share” during the Summer. This means you will get 8 different items each week, usually filling a brown paper grocery bag in volume.
This will be our 8th year growing and harvesting post-freeze. There is a risk associated with such a late-season service, as we are at the mercy of Mother Nature even more so now than in the summer months, and as always, we are grateful to you our farm members for accepting this potential risk with us. Please know that we will do everything humanly possible to keep you in vegetables into December!
