Seasonal Vegetable Availability

'Seasonal' Vegetables:

Our CSA Vegetable program is based on eating fresh, natural, healthy vegetables SEASONALLY, without artificial (chemical) ripening processes or agents. As soon as we are able to get a crop into the ground, without fear of frost damage, we plant it. However, each individual crop takes a certain number of days to reach full maturity to when it can be harvested. (Remember, we are growing your crops here in New England, in the ground, not importing them from warmer climates, or growing them in hothouses.)

That is why we don't have tomatoes in May for example. They are planted after all danger of frost, and after the soil and air temperatures have warmed sufficiently to allow the plants to thrive, typically near the end of May. Even though the tomato plants were started from seed indoors in early April, they can't be planted out until Late May. It then takes those little tomato seedlings until late July to reach full maturity to start producing red, ripe tomatoes, and that is when they will become available in our CSA shares!

We grow over 35 different types of vegetables, not including herbs. Here are some of the main crops we grow:
