What does grass fed mean?
It simply means that cattle are raised their entire life on natural grasses. They eat a diet that is made up of grass, legumes, herbs and forbs. They live outside under natural conditions and are humanely raised from the time they are born until they day they are processed.
Aren't all cattle raised in this way? No in fact 99% of all the beef you buy has been raised in a factory farm setting where cattle are raised in overcrowded feedlots where they are exposed to disease and fed diets that are not natural for them. It is this environment that fosters things like E. Coli bacteria and countless other silent killers. Animals raised in these tight confinement circumstances require constant treatment and vaccinations to keep them alive long enough to be processed. Besides the obvious reasons consumers should be skeptical about buying beef from these environments you should consider that the cattle are given an array of pharmaceutical drugs, which will all end up in your system. Things like growth hormones, large amounts of antibiotics that are leading to disease resistant bacteria, feed with animal byproducts that have led to outbreaks globally of Mad Cow disease. More than ever you need to realize you are only as healthy as your food is. Grass fed beef not only taste's better it's far more healthy.
You are what you eat and this may be a good reason why the World Health Organization (WHO) found this shocking news. Of the 20 major industrialized countries the United States ranked the highest in cost for healthcare per capita. Here's the shocking part; while spending the most on healthcare one might be interested to know that out of the 20 countries surveyed we ranked 17th in life expectancy, WE DIE FIRST! So if spending more on healthcare doesn't lead to a longer healthier life than what does? According to the WHO the other countries focused more on prevention. Some examples of preventive steps to insure good health include lowering stress, eating healthy and quitting smoking. Eating Healthy is one of the best ways to insure not only lower health costs but also more importantly a longer healthier life. If your food is loaded with chemicals cooked up in a lab then you can rest assure you to will become the toxic waste site where these chemicals will reek havoc over time on your body. You want to live longer and healthier than take a moment and learn where your food comes from and why it's important.

Why Devons for Grass Fed Beef?
The Devon being a star performer on grass and doing well on marginal land has proven to be the cattle of choice by many included noted expert Gerald Fry who frequently writes articles on the benefits of Grass Fed Beef such as the article in the Grass Farmer May 2004 Volume 61. With the high demand for land for development, truck crops and other uses farms today have been reduced in size and quality. Most farms are small with only marginal pastureland. These very conditions existed in the time where the Devon was the most common breed of cattle in this country. It wasn't long ago that Devon Cattle numbered in the thousands. They were the cattle of choice in a time when the land was rough and unbroken, a time where cattle were raised in the outdoors, feeding on what nature provided, farms were smaller and required a hardy animal that produced with a minimal amount of care. Today we have similar circumstances and it is now that we will witness the return of this great breed of animal.
