About Farm Camp 2013

ABOUT FARM CAMP:

Devon Point Farm Camp is a on-farm, week-long summer day camp full of learning and fun for children ages 4 to 12.

Our campers have the opportunity to see how our all-natural farm works, learn where good food comes from and have fun with hands-on experiences all day long.

Children Will Learn: 

Responsibility:
 
• Care for animals, baby chicks &  tender vegetable seedlings 
• How to work as part of a team 

Respect, Appreciation & Values: 
• For the farm animals & land  that give us food 
• For the simple basics in life 
• For the history & culture of farming & why to support local farms

Where Food Comes From & Healthy Eating: 
• Farm fresh snacks every day
• Why farm-fresh food grown without  chemicals is better for you 

Hands-On Work Ethics: 
• Kids will get down & dirty starting seeds, transplanting vegetables, harvesting crops, collecting eggs, making compost and more!
• Preserving food they’ve picked 
• Making compost• Exploring the farm

In addition, every session includes activities focused on a specific theme. Campers will get the opportunity to get closer to the food they eat and learn about where their food comes from, the basic principles of healthy eating, natural cycles found on a farm, the history of farming, and farm animals, in addition to participating in farm activities as harvesting vegetables, starting seeds, making compost, and collecting eggs.

2013 Dates:

Session 1: June 24-28 
Session 2: July 8-12
Session 3: July 15-19

*This year, each week of farm camp will offer sessions for ALL age groups!

Half-day Sessions (8:30-11:30am) $95 for:
"Sprouts" Ages 4-5 

& Full-day Sessions (8:30am-3:30pm) $215 for:
"Seedlings" Ages 6-7
"Harvestors" Ages 8-9
"Farmers" Ages 10-12 

*Pre-register by April 15th for reduced rates, after April 15th, rates go up by $20.

Hurry! Registration is limited to 15 kids per session; 4-5 year-olds are limited to 10 kids per session.

 More Information for Parents:

Dress: Farm camp runs Monday through Friday, rain or shine, please dress appropriately. Campers should dress for the weather and plan to be outdoors for all of the camp session. In case of heavy rain, campers will participate in activities in our greenhouse, with drizzle or light rain, campers should bring rain gear and plan on spending the day outside. All campers must wear closed-toed shoes to camp. All campers need a lightweight jacket, sunscreen and a hat. An entire change of clothing should be bagged, labeled & brought to keep for the entire duration of the camp. Please label all items with the camper’s name.

Snacks & Drinks: All campers should bring a lunch & snack (unrefrigerated) and drink or water bottle to camp daily, labeled with the camper’s name.

Safety: Campers are encouraged to explore the farm but must remain with their counselors at all times, and are expected to listen carefully and respect our farmers at work. A note written and signed by a parent/guardian is required to release a camper to someone other than a parent/guardian. Campers are not permitted to linger on the farm before or after camp hours without prior permission from farm owners. *After-hours care is available until 5 p.m. for $12 per hour and must be pre-arranged and pre-paid a week prior to camp.

Other Information

·      Farm Camp registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications will be accepted until each session is full, at which time a wait-list will be started.

·      Withdrawal prior to 4 weeks before the start of the session will be refunded, minus a 25% administration fee, if we can fill the spot from our wait list. If the space cannot be filled, a refund will not be issued.
